BIOGRAPHY
Name: Steve Down
Age: A Young 54
Place of birth: 11 Quay Road Newton Abbot
(they didn’t bother with Hospitals in those days)
Height: 5ft 5 ins (Don’t do Metric)
Weight: Too much of it 13st
Married: To Jan somehow we’ve managed nearly 28 years
Children: One daughter Mel
Occupation: Painter and Decorator and being secretary of Newton United
Favourite holiday place: Cyprus
Favourite drink: Anything that gets me Pxxxxx but probably Brandy
Favourite food: Curry
Favourite music/band: The Beatles (showing my age)
Child hood hero: Jimmy Greaves
Worst nightmare: Being stuck on a desert island with Matt Turner!
Previous Clubs: Kingsteignton Athletic, Kingsteignton British Legion, Duplex, Nova and Centrax (Both Sunday league)
Position played: Midfield or Sweeper but started out as a striker
Favourite other sport: I enjoy a day at the races with a few drinks.
Best Newton Utd player seen: Dave Gilchrist or Jason Byrnes
Funniest thing seen with Newton Utd:
One of our ex managers went to get the ball when it was kicked into touch and cocked his leg over a fence, the trouble was it was an electric fence and he got a shock between the legs
Most memorable match played in: Newton United 2 v 1 Newton Spurs res Greenaway cup final 1978
Worst Moment connected with football: Playing at Beesands on the day Mike Mudge broke his leg in terrible conditions. Getting Jason Byrnes fixed up with Torquay United and seeing him chuck the chance away. Costing the reserves a cup final place a few years ago by not being aware of some stupid rule. There have been so many disappointments over the years I could go on and on.
Favourite away ground: Coach Road
Worst away ground: Malborough, King George v and Steppes Cross take your pick
What change would you make to football rules:
If your offside your offside none of this interfering nonsense. If your not interfering you shouldn’t be on the pitch!
What change would you like to see at Newton Utd:
Decent changing rooms

You would only need one up front because you wouldn’t get a pass from Jason Byrnes
