United made hard work of this win against the bottom of the table Morton. Both sides had few shots on target in the first half although Morton were a lot better team than there league position suggested. Newtons best chance fell to Sirin Guloglu and JP Taylor whose shot was pushed over the bar.
H.T. 0 - 0
Only 3 mins into the second half an awful back pass from Lewis Gill to keeper Martyn Byrne led to Byrne kicking the ball straight to the Morton centre forward who promptly tapped the ball into an empty net. 1 - 0.
4 mins later Lee Byrne free kick hit the post for Utd but by now Morton were well on top. After 55 mins Newton replaced Arturo Cordero with Dave Bush and changed formation. This had the desired effect and they soon started making a lot more chances.
After 65 mins only a superb clearance off the line by Sean Winsor stopped Morton grabbing a second .
After 73 mins Utd grabbed an equaliser following a shot by Guney Uven, the ball broke loose to Sirin Guloglu who scored with ease.
Just 10 mins later Utd were awarded a penalty when a Morton defender needlessly knocked JP Taylor to the ground and Lee Byrne smashed the ball in for the winner.
