Lidstone Cup 1st Round
Unlike last weeks game away to Brixham, this game against a mediocre side was a shambles going down 6 - 3 at the final whistle.
We did start well with Jamie Clifford going close on 4min with a well struck shot on target from 30yds out, only for the Langdon keeper to par away.
We found ourselves one down on 17min, Lee Fletcher letting his man go on the right, ran on, crossed the ball for the unmarked striker to slot in past Shadi. 0 - 1.
32mins we were back on level terms, Chinky with a long header forward was picked up by Ben Sims to put the ball away for the equaliser.
HALF TIME 1 - 1
With 10mins gone after the break it was just a roller coaster ride for Langdon after we went two one down. Our defence was blown apart with Shadi in goal playing the defensive role on his own. 1 - 2.
Things got worse a minute later when Chinky lost possession in the box and Langdon scored again. 1 - 3.
Langdon went four one up on 72min, a good run down the right with a pin point cross to the far post was met with a clean header to finish.1 - 4.
Goals came at regular intervals after 72min, I had a job to get it all down on paper, they came so fast. Jamie Clifford was the next one on the score sheet on 79min, a good solo run down the centre of the park from the half way line to nutmeg three defenders on route before firing home. 2 - 4.
Three minutes later Langdon had put the ball in the back of our net once more, at this point it was just a hopeless case for us, 5 - 2 down.
Steve Narvidge gave us a glimmer of hope on 85mins with a good solo run, using his weight to force his way past two defenders before slotting the ball in past the keeper. 3 - 5.
Two minutes later we found ourselves depleted and in trouble again at the back with Shadi in goal once again playing a defensive role.
FINAL SCORE: Newton Utd 3. Langdon F.C. 6.
To sum up, this was diabolical display of football against a side that do not have the players they had when they were promoted to division two at the start of last season. As I remember they just managed to beat us on both occasions when they had a strong side in division three.
Man of the match, well this wasn't too difficult, just two to pick from. Shadi in goal let six past but he wasn't to blame, it could have been a lot more and he gave a 100%
Jamie Clifford was our man today, he never gave up and played his usual stuff.
