A great result for us on Saturday against Meadowbrook Ath. Our bogey side from previous encounters in division three last season. This was only one of few games played due to the atrocious weather conditions of last week, so The Herald Express were present to publish the match report and photos for the evening edition on Monday.
We got off to a bit of slow start with just the one goal in the first half coming on 17mins, with Chunky having to do a bit of defending with Shadi calling for the pass back to make it safe, but Chunky cool as a cucumber rounded his attacker and played the ball down the middle for Craig Price to lay the ball out to Carl Roles on the flanks, then with a one two with Steve (Benny) Brent Carl slotted the ball in for the opener. 1 - 0.
Our lead was cancelled out on 24mins when we conceded a corner. With the set piece taken the ball flew over the crowded box and was headed in at the far post. 1 - 1.
The first half remained at one-A-piece with the home side having the better of the game with Meadowbrook's keeper doing a great job of keeping the ball out of his net on many occasions with Shadi at the other end having a quiet half.
HALF TIME: 1 - 1.
With the second half under way it wasn't too long before we got back on the score sheet with a good through ball down the middle from Steve (Benny) Brent on 60mis found the feet of Jamie Clifford who then rounded two defenders and side footed the ball in past the Meadow's keeper. 2 - 1.
Our third goal was the reverse of our last one, Jamie Clifford this time being the provider for Benny to catch out Meadowbrook's all at sea defence to score at close range.
3 - 1.
At this point there was now sign of a Meadowbrook come back, so we had a shuffle round with our subs who took a little time to settle in, one of which was Chinky who came up with a great effort from 20yds, you might say it was a net buster if it had gone in, but somehow the keeper got a hand to it with the resulting ball coming back off the cross bar with one hell of a rattle.
On 81mins the job was done and dusted as far as we were concerned, Carl Roles with a pin point cross for Jamie Clifford unmarked in the middle of the 18yrd box to fire in under the Meadow's keeper. 4 - 1,
And to rub the salt into the wounds Andy Turner came up with our fifth just a minute later to lob the keeper from 20yds. 5 - 1.
FINAL SCORE: NEWTON UTD 5. MEADOWBROOK ATH 1.
To sum things up: Man of the match, well that could have been anyone, so the decision was left to Knighty.
M.O.T.M. Scott Clausen.
