Saturday was another tough game for us played at Bakers Park against high flyers Harbertonford, this our second defeat against this well organised village side.
We did get on the score sheet first on 18mins after some good pressure on our visitors, they had to make a goal line clearance to stop the ball going in, but their efforts to send the ball up field was blocked by Craig Price's chest only for the rebound to go in. 1 - 0.
Two minutes later we had doubled our score, Carl Roles with a neat pass to Andy Turner and with a bit of football trickery Ronaldo style, three toe lifts and a back heal found Craig Price over on the far side to make his run and finish with a clinical shot past the big keeper of Harbertonford. 2 - 0.
Two goal up in twenty minutes against this side was just like Christmas but we gave away a silly free kick just outside the 18yrd box, a dangerous place for a free kick. The spot kick ball floated in, found it's way through the pack and was played to an off side player coming back, his side foot stroke on the ball going in and with the line flag going up and appeals from Steve Knight to the referee the goal stood. 2 - 1.
HALF TIME: 2 - 1.
With just three minutes gone in this half Harbertonford evened things up with a corner ball taken that was floated in over our defence to an unmarked player on the far post to slot in. 2 - 2.
We lost the plot again five minutes later to go behind for the first time in this game. It was a long ball in from Harbertonford into a crowded 12yrd box, we just couldn't get the ball away to safety, in the end it came out of the pack to a loose player and was driven in at an unbelievable acute angle. 2 - 3.
70min found us back on level terms with a good build up to our third goal, a long ball up field found Andy Turner's head to send the ball on it's way for Gavin Richardson's super header in from 12yds. 3 - 3.
It would have been nice to have salvaged a point from this game as we had played pretty well throughout this game with us taking many chances with long range shots, all just wide, but that wasn't to be, Harbertonford sealed the game on 82mins with a crossed ball headed in at the far post.
FINAL SCORE: NEWTON UTD 3. HARBERTONFORD 4.
