Our short trip down the road to meet Buckland Ath at Holmers Heath was another valuable three points for the league leaders in their quest for promotion to division one next season, although they did concede an early goal on four minutes with a good through ball from Carl Roles to strike a ferocious shot in, only for the Buck's keeper to block with both hands with Craig Price on hand to put the rebound into the net from just a few yards. 0 - 1.
It wasn't long before Buckland got the equaliser on 13mins, the ball played from the far side was crossed to a totally unmarked player in the middle of the park some 35yds out to unleash a terrific strike to beat Shaadi in goal. 1 - 1. With the game now locked at one-a-piece and half time approaching we almost went 2 - 1 up with a great effort from Chinkie just outside the 18yrd box, his thunderbolt shot was tipped around the post by the inform Buckland keeper for a corner.
On 45mins Buckland took the lead from a corner that was headed in at the far post, the game resumed and the whistle was blown for the end of the first half.
We did look strong in this first half with the evening sun going down with some good end to end football and plenty of scares from both sides, but we weren't too bothered at being just the one goal down as we put in a good performance against a good side.
HALF TIME: 2 - 1.
With the second half under way and the floodlights on, this was something new to us playing under artificial light, as Buckland went goal crazy in this half with their third coming on 62mins with the ball played down the centre of the park and crossed over to a fellow player on the right, the ball was blasted in from an acute angle to beat Shaadi. 3 - 1.
Another two quick goals in the space of eight minutes sealed the game for Buckland, the first just a minute later saw Shaadi make a brilliant save from a well struck ball only for the rebound to be blasted in from just 6yds. 4 - 1.
Buckland wrapped the game up seven minutes later when we got caught out at the back with the ball dropping out of the night sky and falling nicely with only our goal keeper to beat was looped over Shaadi and in off the upright. 5 - 1.
FINAL SCORE: BUCKLAND ATH 5. NEWTON UTD 1.
To sum up:
We played some good football as a team out there under conditions we are not used to, I found it myself as a spectator very difficult to see the ball at times especially in the corners and when the ball was up in the air, this must have been a new experience for many of our lads but they all played well right up to the final whistle and showed true grit against a well organised side.
Man of the match on this occasion for his performance on the night was Shane Cogavin who doesn't normally go the full distance, but as we had two key players missing, he had to do the full ninety minutes for this one.
